Last night and the night before, the New York modern dance group Jennifer Muller The Works brought two dance and visual feast to the Beijing audience at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. It was one of the major programs of the 6th Beijing International Theatre and Dance Festival. Not long ago, the pioneer of the American modern dance, the Martha Graham Dance Company just performed at the NCPA with the established classic programs. Comparing to Martha Graham, who is basically a modern dance history museum, Jennifer Muller’s dance appears young, energetic, full of vitality, and feels more suitable to modern audience’s taste. Furthermore, her programs utilized many Chinese elements. Muller said “Yi Jing – the Book of Change” and “Dao De Jing“ not only affected her dance, but also her life.
