Lahti Symphony Orchestra starts their tour in China on Monday May 4th, 2009. Okko Kamu, who will become the orchestra’s principal conductor in 2011, conducts orchestra in Shanghai’s Spring Festival (5/7), in Suzhou (5/6) and in Beijing’s May Music Festival (9 and 10). In Beijing the orchestra will play in the city’s new national concert hall, the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, which has received much attention with its modern architecture. The Soloist on tour will be violinist Ilya Gringolts, who will play Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. In the concert programmes there are also Sibelius’ 3rd and 7th Symphony, Scene with Cranes and The Lover Suite. Other works are Peter Vasks’ Musica Dolorosa and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.
