Amethyst Performing Arts Management announced today that Jennifer Muller The Works has chosen APA Management to manage exclusively all of it's future Asia concert tours.
Jennifer Muller/The Works is proud to have celebrated its 31st Anniversary Year in 2006. Few contemporary dance companies have reached this mark of longevity. An exceptional track record -touring to 38 countries on 4 continents and 30 states in the US and producing 20 NYC Seasons at the Joyce, New Victory, City Center and Roundabout Theaters and the Kaye Playhouse -has established the company as a dynamic international presence.
The Works has performed at major theaters and festivals worldwide, from Buenos Aires to Toronto and Hong Kong to Moscow with appearances in Theatre de Ville, Paris; Shanghai Opera House, Shanghai; Teatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro; Mossoviet Theatre, Moscow; Köln Operhaus, Köln; Mann Auditorium, Tel Aviv; City Center, Hong Kong; Theatre Maisonneuve, Montreal, Stadsschouwburg, Amsterdam; and Teatro San Martin, Buenos Aires, to name a few. In the USA, The Works has performed in The Kennedy and Lincoln Centers, Jacob's Pillow, The American Dance Festival and Central Park Summerstage, and in such unique venues as The Museum of Modern Art, The New York Botanical Garden, The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, and Summer in the Square Festival in Union Square, The South Street Seaport and The United Nations.
The company has premiered over 90 pieces, working with a wide variety of artistic collaborators such as Yoko Ono, Keith Haring and Keith Jarrett. Ms. Muller's work has been characterized as "sensual," "inspired," "luminous," "impassioned," "bravura pieces." Recognized as a "seminal influence on dance/theater, she is known for her expressive movement style, unusual stage environments and the radical incorporation of spoken dialogue in dance performance. Ms. Muller's choreography has been commissioned by 24 international repertory companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Nederlands Dans Theater, NDT 3, Ballet Lyon, Ballet Contemporaneo Argentina, Tanz-Forum Köln, Bat Dor, Israel and Tians ten-city tour of China. Her work for theater includes such venues as The Public Theater, Second Stage, New York Stage and Film and the Metropolitan Opera.
Ms. Muller is highly respected in her field. She was recently honored by being chosen as a founding member of the World Arts Council, one of 30 artists in six disciplines alongside such creative luminaries as Placido Domingo, Toyo Ito, Santiago Calatrava, Sydney Pollack, Irene Papas and Ian Herbert. As Artistic Director of The Works, her passion and tireless creative energy drive the vision of creating a wider acceptance for dance and, thereby, its relevance in society. The company's creative work combines spirited, virtuostic dance that engages audiences with a dance/theater, multi-discipline approach that is accessible and communicates directly to audiences about issues that touch their lives. The desire to expose new audiences to dance inspires the company's outreach activities with the belief that a dance company can extend beyond the stage to advocate human rights and act as a catalyst for change.
