Amethyst Performing Arts (APA) Management has organized a revival of the production of Palau de les Arts "Reina Sofia" Valencia's version of Puccini's Turandot for the grand opening of the new Guangzhou Opera House. Conducted by world-famous conductor Maestro Lorin Maazel and featuring an international cast of singers, this opera truly symbolizes the meeting of East and West in China.
Puccini's Turandot will be the premiere opera for the grand opening of the majestic Guangzhou Opera House. Designed by Zaha Hadid, the Guangzhou Opera House is situated downstream of the Pearl River, and harmoniously links modern architecture with the dynamic flow of water over stone. The majestic 1,800 seat theatre is famous for its wonderful acoustics and state-of-the-art equipment.
Turandot will be a historic first on many levels; not only is it the grand opening of the first opera house in south China (including Hong Kong), it is also Maestro Maazel's first opera in China. For such a historic event, world-class singers were invited to perform, including: Anna Shafajinskaia, Irene Theorin, Sylvie Valayre, Francesco Hong, Richard Margison, Cristina Gallardo-Domas, Alexia Voulgaridou, Hao Jiang Tian, Fabio Previati, Vinçenc Esteve, Ventseslav Anastasov, and Jason Ferrante.
With stage direction by Shahar Stroh, assistant conductor Gareth Morrell, and pianist-coach Jonathan Kelly (both from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City), this production features the combined talents of the Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, as well as the Guangzhou Opera Institute, headed by Madame Yun Deng.
Amethyst Performing Arts Management is proud to present Puccini's Turandot, May 6-9, 2010 at the Guangzhou Opera House.
